While I knew that losing weight required creating a calorie deficit by eating less and moving more, at 305 pounds, I found it difficult to think about making the dramatic changes that would help me lose half my size and get healthy. Instead of trying to make huge, sweeping changes that might have been impossible to sustain, I made a series of small changes that resulted in me eventually losing 158 pounds.

One very important small change I made was to commit to a daily walking program. At first I could only walk about 10 minutes at a snail’s pace, but ultimately, I lost weight, saw my fitness level improve dramatically, and moved from being an obese mom who could hardly move to a fit mom who no longer sat on the couch most of the day.
