From weed-infused wine to marijuana-laced lube, people have been finding all sorts of ways to reap the benefits of cannabis without lighting up. Next up? Brewbudz, a small start-up in San Diego, created the world's first weed-infused Keurig-compatible pods, allowing you to add the herb to your coffee, tea, and cocoa.
The products are already available in Nevada and will soon hit store shelves in Colorado and California. They're 100 percent compostable, cost $7 a pop, and "offer various dosage options to fit every lifestyle," according to the brand's press release. Each pod, whether coffee, tea, or cocoa, can be purchased in 10-, 25-, and 50-milligram doses of delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the chemical responsible for most of marijuana's high.
Weed education group Consume Responsibly suggests a 5-milligram dose for those who don't smoke regularly. Since the pods don't have a 5-milligram option, you definitely want to sip slowly if you decide to give these a try. It can also take "as long as two hours to experience the effects," according to Brewbudz, so save the chugging for your next Starbucks order, K?
Of course, it's important to note that there are still some potential downsides to consuming cannabis. While it's an effective way to manage pain, experts still don't know how the drug affects your long-term health. For instance, researchers believe marijuana could increase your risk for mental health problems and can have a negative effect on your workout performance.
