Stars as Fantine in Les Miserables
Hathaway plays Fantine, a poor French woman who turns to prostitution in the big-screen adaptation of Les Miserables, a role that wins her both an Oscar and a Golden Globe.

In 2001, Anne Hathaway landed the role that made her famous, playing Mia Thermopolis in The Princess Diaries, directed by romantic comedy master Garry Marshall. Named “America’s New Sweetheart," the actress soon found continued enormous success in the roles that followed, including Brokeback Mountain, The Devil Wears Prada, Bride Wars, Valentine’s Day, Love & Other Drugs, and The Dark Knight Rises, to name a few. In 2013, Hathaway won her first Academy Award and Golden Globe for her incredible performance as Fantine in the big-screen adaptation of Les Miserables, solidifying her status as a Hollywood a-lister.

It seemed the star was always destined for success; when she was younger, she became the first and only teenager accepted to The Barrow Group, a theater company and acting school in New York City. Born in Brooklyn on November 12, 1982 to a lawyer father and an actress mom, Hathaway grew up in New Jersey along with her two brothers. She had a love for singing and in 1998, she was lucky enough to perform with her high school honors chorus at Carnegie Hall. Three days after her appearance, she was cast in the short-lived Fox television series Get Real at only 16 years old.

Hathaway is known to work extremely hard to transform herself into character, but didn’t always love to exercise until she started training for The Dark Knight Rises (having to wear an unforgiving, figure-hugging catwoman suit probably helped motivate!). The striking star credits a plant-based diet, Bikram yoga, martial arts, running, strength training, lots of cardio, and regular workouts with fitness gurus like Joe Dowdell and Simone De La Rue to help get her trim and toned on and off set. “I’ve always thought that skinny was the goal, but with this job, I also have to be strong,” she says. Kristen Aldridge
