The daughter of a real-estate agent and an educator, actress Kerry Washington was born in New York City on January 31, 1977 and grew up in the South Bronx. She was a total natural when it came to performing—she loved to appear in school productions and was a member of a theater group. Eventually, Washington won a theater scholarship to George Washington University, where she majored in performance studies, anthropology, and sociology.

It was a national commercial that got her a Screen Actors Guild card, the first gig towards a hugely successful career in Hollywood. Since her 1994 screen debut in the ABC Afterschool Special Magical Make-Over, Washington has appeared in numerous big-name projects like Mr. & Mrs. Smith, Ray, Fantastic Four, and Django Unchained. In 2012, the stunning star landed the lead role in the hit ABC drama Scandal, created by legendary producer, screenwriter, and director Shonda Rimes. The hugely popular and critically acclaimed role earned her nominations for a Primetime Emmy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, and a Golden Globe.

2013 continued to be big year for her both personally and professionally. In June, she married pro football player Nnamdi Asomugha and announced she was pregnant with their first child. On the showbiz side, Washington ranked No. 2 on People Magazine's "100 Most Beautiful People" and was also named "Woman of the Year" by Glamour. In addition, she became the new face of Neutrogena skin care. So how does the leading lady get so gorgeous from the inside out? From intense workouts with her trainers Tadeo and Nonna Gleyzer to a healthy, organic diet, she definitely works hard for that sexy, scandalous shape! —Kristen Aldridge
