This Beauty CEO Was Told She Was Too Overweight to Represent a Makeup Brand

If you haven't heard about beauty mogul Jamie Kern Lima, it's time you did. The 40-year-old California native is a Columbia University graduate, the cofounder (and CEO) of IT Cosmetics, and has been named one of Forbes Magazine's "Most Successful Self-Made Women" and one of Goldman Sachs' "100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs." But despite her impressive and ever-expanding résumé, she came from humble beginnings and had to surpass some difficulties to find the success she enjoys today.

Manuka Honey

Manuka honey is one of the hottest skin-care ingredients of the moment, and for good reason. "It's anti-inflammatory and collagen-boosting, so it's great for anti-aging," Gohara says. It can also be used to deeply soothe and hydrate skin by drawing moisture into the skin, promoting skin healing, Dr. Chwalek says. Manuka honey has natural antibacterial properties, too, so it can even be applied to the skin as a balm for things like skin infections, bites, and cuts. (Fun fact: It comes in essential oil form, too!)

Lavender Oil

On top of the stress-relieving benefits that come from taking a whiff of this essential oil, lavender can also do wonders for your skin. It's widely known for its antimicrobial properties and for helping speed the healing of burns, cuts, scrapes, and wounds, Dr. Chwalek explains. This oil also increases collagen production, making it a great anti-aging regiment for wrinkles, she says.
