It takes a village

December 9, 2008

Today I met the first member of Team Aury: my life coach, Lauren Zander. I honestly had no idea what to expect—I wasn't really sure what a life coach does. I pictured her as a cross between Oprah and a professional organizer who will tackle the mess in your closet. Lauren and I talked for an hour about my life—not just my relationship with food and exercise, but work, friends, family, and men. She said that we would spend the next year discussing these things, going deep to figure out how I'd gotten to 235 pounds. I wasn't sure I wanted to go deep. I felt much more comfortable on the surface.

But Lauren promised me that if I do the work, not only will I lose the weight, I'll be able to keep it off. So I guess I'd better get ready for a year of introspection. I know, in the end, it'll be worth it. (Now if I could only find someone to help me get my closet organized!)
