A pill-free pain killer

Sitting hunched over my computer for eight-plus hours sometimes leaves my neck and shoulders really stiff and sore. It may not seem like it has anything to do with weight loss, but the discomfort can make it tough for me to sleep—and even harder to get up early and exercise. My trainer, Lauren Kern from Equinox, showed me a great stretch I can do several times a day to ease the ache.



1. Stand with feet hip-width apart and face the corner of a room, about a foot from the walls.



2. Bend your elbows 90 degrees and raise your arms to shoulder height out to your sides (like goalposts), placing your forearms on the walls.



3. Push your chest toward the corner until you feel a stretch through your shoulders, arms, and back.



4. Hold for 15 seconds; then repeat.
