New Diet Plan: The 17-Day Diet
Can you lose significant weight on the 17-Day Diet plan or is it just another weight loss gimmick?
17 days to significant weight loss? That’s what the latest diet craze, the 17-Day Diet promises. All you have to do is follow the 17-day diet plan, add 17 minutes of exercise to your daily routine and start each morning with a cookie. Sounds easy right? Maybe a little too easy. Is there anything to be said for this new diet plan or is it just another weight loss gimmick?
The 17-Day Diet, created by Dr. Michael Rafael Moreno, is broken down into four 17-day cycles. According to Dr. Moreno the body becomes accustomed to change in about 21 days. But, it’s at 17 days that the metabolism starts to slow down in response to these changes. In order to beat boredom and plateaus the diet plan begins a new cycle at the 17-day mark.
Each cycle of the 17-Day Diet plan varies the carbs, proteins, fruits and other foods to stimulate the metabolism. But, some rules stay constant throughout the diet. Fruit and starchy carbs are off limits after 2pm and sugar and processed foods are to be avoided at all times. Greek yogurt is a key component in the diet plan and there’s an emphasis on flavoring foods with spices, garlic, and cinnamon. And don’t forget Dr. Mike’s Power Cookie for breakfast.
A diet plan that starts each day with a cookie may sound crazy but when you take a close look at the ingredient list it’s packed with whole grains, protein and of course, no added sugar. And while this diet plan is packed with gimmicks (the cookie, 17 days, 17 minutes of exercise) it has worked for many and has a lot of good elements. Consistently beginning the day with a homemade breakfast is a great way to get started, whether you call it a cookie or not. We all know how important it is to get moving each and everyday and yet it can be so hard to find the time and motivation. By requiring just 17 minutes of exercise this diet plan's physical requirements seem so doable and may lead to greater consistency. It may just be this emphasis on consistency, whole foods, and mindful eating that are the key to this diet plans success—more than the magic number 17.
