Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh made history at the Beijing games by winning their second straight Olympic title, establishing them as the greatest beach volleyball team of all time. No one, male or female, has matched the success of this dynamic duo.
Facing off against the home team, Tian Jia and Wang Jie of China, in an exhilarating rain-soaked match, the American women emerged victorious in straight sets, 21-18 and 21-18. The longtime partners did not lose a match or even a single set in Beijing—they accomplished the same feat in Athens in 2004—and concluded the games with their 108th straight win.
The question of whether they'll continue their winning streak remains as both athletes turn their attention to starting a family. May-Treanor, 31, and Walsh, 30, won't say if they'll return for an appearance at the 2012 games, but considering their accomplishments, anything seems possible.
