Carly is a freelance journalist living in Missoula, Montana with a penchant for words, wide open spaces and adventure, usually accompanied by her two dogs. She covers environmental justice, outdoor equity, public health, and food sovereignty.

Carly attended Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. where she earned her bachelor’s degree in International Politics. Carly attended Northwestern University for graduate school where she earned her master’s degree in Journalism. There, she worked with the Medill Justice Project to investigate flaws within the Illinois incarceration system. She was named a Pulitzer Student Fellow and received a grant to report from the West Bank on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict through the lens of agriculture and farming.

Her first foray into journalism started with two years at Shape magazine in New York City. While Carly no longer works in the fitness and health space, she still fills her trail race calendar every year.
