Hey Mr.D.J.! Keep Playing that Song for Me
Weddings tend to have many predictable elements: throwing the bouquet, cutting the cake, funny Best Man speeches and of course dancing. The songs chosen for these milestones have also become somewhat predictable, so much so that The Knot has provided Brides-to-be with a list of 15 Wedding Songs to Skip.
Personally, I still like some of the songs they selected and will still have them played at my wedding, but there are a few that I hope to never hear again. Follow me as I choose which ones will stay and which ones will go on to music heaven:
"Mony Mony," by Billy Idol--I actually don't mind this song, and it always makes crowds go wild and crazy so I think I'll keep it!
"Love Shack," by the B-52's--This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a kid, and it's my go-to karaoke song. This stays!
"Gonna Make You Sweat (Everybody Dance Now)," by C+C Music Factory-- Not a fan, reminds me of 5th grade gym class. Nixed!
"My Heart Will Go On," by Celine Dion--This song I will gladly let go of. I didn't like the movie, and the song is even worse. Sunk!
"Total Eclipse of the Heart," by Bonnie Tyler--I'm a sucker for really cheesy 80's music and this song is no exception. It will play on!
"Stayin' Alive," by the Bee Gees-- This song is just fun, so it stays for now.
"Macarena," by Los Del Rio--This is a no brainer. Cut!
"Every Breath You Take," by The Police--Although I love Sting, I don't love this song.
"Chicken Dance"-- No. Just, no.
"YMCA," by The Village People--Please see above answer.
"I Gotta Feeling," The Black Eyed Peas-- Even though it's been overplayed recently, I still like it and will definitely shake my booty on the dance floor.
"Hot in Here," by Nelly--I think this song is so much fun and it reminds me of high school dances, but I have a fear that some of my family members may take this song literally (whilst on the dance floor) so I will resist playing it at my wedding.
"We are Family," by Sister Sledge-- Not likely.
"Cha Cha Slide," DJ Casper-- Absolutely no synchronized dances will be played at my wedding, and that also includes this song's big brother the "Electric Slide."
"Celebration," by Kool & The Gang--This is still up for debate.
