Lifestyle editor Susan Cross dishes weekly on how she manages to do it all
You know those crazy speed-dating events where people have to squeeze in as much information about themselves as possible in order to make a good first impression in a short amount of time? I kinda feel like I’m at one of those right now. Here goes…
My name is Susan, I’m a Taurus, and I like long walks on the beach. Also, I’m the new lifestyle editor of SHAPE! I’m really excited to share what I’ve learned about achieving balance and living your happiest, healthiest life in my upcoming column (look for me in October’s issue) as well as right here each week on Shape.com.
You see, I had a mini-midlife freak out when I realized I was closer to 40 than 30 and still hadn’t done a lot of the things that I’d always wanted to do. Up until then I’d been completely immersed in raising my three kids. Being a mom is still by far the most amazing thing in my life, but it shouldn’t have been the only thing. So I made a list of life goals and set out to conquer all of them before I turned 40. I didn’t finish until I was 42, but by then it didn’t matter because it turns out there’s no statute of limitations on dream fulfillment! Now my life is happy, healthy, and, most importantly, balanced.
I’ll be blogging about how you can give yourself permission to prioritize your own dreams and how to carve out “me time” so that you can start turning them into reality. And I’ll be continuing to challenge myself to step outside my own comfort zone—and sharing all the juicy details.
