New study shows that eating just a few walnuts a day may decrease breast-cancer risk.
Good news for those who sometimes feel like a nut. New research published in the journal Nutrition and Cancer has found that just a couple of ounces of walnuts a day may be all it takes to reduce the risk of developing breast cancer.
In a study done on mice, researchers found that mice whose diets included walnuts developed breast cancer at less than half the rate of the group of mice with a typical diet that didn't include walnuts. Additionally, in those mice who did develop breast cancer, those who had walnuts in their diets developed fewer and smaller tumors than those who didn't get the nuts.
Although the study was done on mice and not people, the results are encouraging and further proof that diet plays a vital role in health, the researchers say. Known as a brain health-food, this is just another reason why walnuts are one of the healthiest foods out there. Walnuts have also been shown to be heart-healthy and good for expecting moms. Eat them up today!
