Healthy(-er) Halloween Candy


Approximately 598 million pounds of candy are sold annually during the Halloween season, according to Nielsen. With only 44 million children living in the US, that's a whopping 13.5 pounds of candy per child or a lot of adults snagging more than just one piece of Halloween candy!

Here are some healthier options to satisfy every candy craving from Adam Bornstein the editorial director at Don’t worry, we’re not telling you to grab a mug of sugar-free hot chocolate in lieu of a candy bar or chew a stick of gum instead of peppermint patties—I’d never do that to you! Read on to find your  fix!

Chocolate Candy Craving:

Trick: Hershey's bars have 210 calories, 13g fat, and 24g sugar

Treat: Skinny Cow Fudge bars have 100 calories, 2g fat,  and13 g sugar
Save: 1/2 the calories, 1/6 the fat, and almost 1/2 the sugar!

Nutty Candy Craving:

Trick: Snickers bar has 280 calories, 14g fat, and 30g sugar

Treat: CocoaVia chocolate covered almonds have 140 calories, 11g fat and 8g sugar
Save: 1/2 the calories and almost 1/4 of the sugar!

Fruit Candy Craving:

Trick: Skittles have 250 calories, 2.5g fat and 47g sugar
Treat: Gushers (mixed fruit bag) has 80 calories, 0g fat and 14g sugars 
Save: 1/4 the calories and 1/3 the sugar!

Mint Candy Craving:

Trick: York Peppermint Patties have 140 calories, 2.5g of fat, and 25g  sugar

Treat: Red Bird Peppermint Puffs have 60 calories, 0g fat, and 15 g sugar
Save: 1/2 the calorie, and more than 1/3 the sugar!
