Always wanted to meet an editor from Shape (including me) in person—and learn how to curb your sweet tooth, eat to beat diabetes, and understand all the nutrition speak? Now you can with New York City’s ShapeUp NYC program, which Shape (and Equinox Fitness Clubs) is partnering with to bring the pages of Shape to life.
The kick-off for the new partnership took place on Friday at Harlem Hospital, after a free Zumba class given by Equinox. After I briefly spoke, I talked to residents of NYC who have been taking advantage of the free Equinox fitness classes to date (and now will be getting free nutritional information thanks to Shape editors). So many of these people have lost weight and are on a journey to better health. One woman even lost 100 pounds—and has been able to stop her high blood pressure medication and cholesterol medication! Amazing stuff! (You might even see her on the pages of Shape as a Success Story coming up!)
Our impetus behind getting involved: getting healthy is the right of everyone—whether you’ve got the money for a gym membership or not. Plus everyone should be volunteering in their lives to help share their knowledge: we’re taking what we know out onto the streets so everyone can be a success story!
