Getting back in the gym

Being stuck in bed for a week with a virus has left me feeling flabby, weak, and not very sexy. Needless to say, I was a little nervous to get back to the gym yesterday. Okay, to be truthful, I was actually dreading the gym. But when I finally got motivated to get my body in gear again after so many days off, I took a seat on my favorite bike and eased myself into a 30-minute bike ride. Then I walked on the treadmill to cool down and it wasn't so bad--I had no problems getting my body to move how it had before. My issue seemed to be more mental, than physical. And once I left the gym, I was feeling back to my old self again--motivated and hoping to get back on track with my triathlon training once and for all. It was actually harder to get myself to go to the gym, than it was to make it through my workout. Although I am behind on my swim practices and long distance runs, I've learned an important lesson from getting sick: You've got to listen to your body and slow down when you're feeling tired and run down.
