I'm feeling so much better today. I took some good advice from a friend and went to bed early last night—smart move. This morning, I sprung up ready for action. I'm planning to do a hill run tonight (gotta prep for Heartbreak hill!), so I opted for a boot camp-style workout with lots of squats pre-coffee.
Squats are great for runners. They teach your glute muscles to fire, which takes pressure off your hips, quads, and hamstrings, helps you run more efficiently, and prevents injuries down the road. A sports medicine doc I know likes to say, "A strong butt equals a happy runner." And although I can't trust everything he says (like, not enough to date him—made that mistake), I agree with him on that account.
