Join us on the beach this Sunday!!

The thing I love about Shape, not only are my coworkers people I work with, but I like hanging out with them outside of work too. That’s why I’m really excited for Sunday—Shape’s heading to the beach! However, we won't just be lounging around in the sun...

While most of us aren’t able to go help clean up the beaches in the Gulf (can you believe what’s going on with this oil spill?’s devastating!), we can give back to the shores in our neck of the woods by joining our local Surfrider Foundation chapter for International Surfing Day, Although I’d head to the beach with my coworkers on any given day in the summer, this is a really cool opportunity I’m so excited about! It’s sad to see that the beaches have gotten more packed and even more dirty by careless people leaving their garbage behind. In fact, the last time I was home Memorial Day weekend, my best friend and I collected every piece of debris we passed on our walk down the shore—we were actually kind of disgusted! Leaving your garbage on the beach is like leaving empty water bottles all over your living room floor. We have to start looking at our environment as an extension of our home. That's why Sunday is a huge volunteer event that aims to clean up as much trash and debris as possible on beaches worldwide!

I’m looking forward to seeing my Shape girls outside of work, and hopefully meeting some of you too! That's right, if you're in the area, come meet up at Rockaway Beach in Queens, NY. We’d love to have you help with our beach cleaning efforts! (And if you’re not in the NYC area, check out the website, , to find more than 200 other events across the country to join on a beach near you.) Besides, the forecasts says it’s going to be in the upper 80’s (don’t forget your sunscreen!) so it will be a great day to be outside. We’ll be at 90th street at Rockaway Beach from 1pm to 4pm. And if you’re up for some body boarding—you know I am—Surfrider Foundation is hosting clinics, which you can take too. Hope to see you there!
