Pre-Workout Snack

Sunday brunch is one of the things I love most about weekends, but the restaurant I went to this morning doesn’t open until 11 a.m. Because I didn’t want to sleep away the whole morning, I headed to the gym around 9. Working out on an empty stomach makes it feel harder, but eating a full meal gives me cramps while I’m running. To get through my set of intervals, I made this morning snack right in my dorm room:

  • One packet of Quaker instant oatmeal, original flavor prepared with water from my electric tea kettle.
  • One white peach from the farmer’s market cut into small chunks, which I mixed with the oatmeal to impart the peach flavor throughout.
  • One cup of green tea.

I felt energized during the whole workout and got hungry again just in time for brunch. My snack came to about 140 calories, 30g carbs, 2g fat, 4g protein.

P.S. The electric tea kettle is my best friend. It brings water to a rolling boil in just minutes for tea, coffee, oatmeal, or anything else that requires hot water.
