1 in 5 Women Don't Work Out Because of Breast Pain

We're all familiar with the common excuses for forgoing that gym visit—we're too tired, too busy, or just not feeling motivated. But what about blaming your boobs? Well, nearly one in five women say their breasts prevent them from participating in physical activity, according to new research published in the Journal of Physical Activity & Health.

The study, which surveyed 249 female respondents found the breasts were the fourth greatest barrier to physical activity, ranking right behind lack of energy/motivation, time constraints, and health reasons. The survey found that, "I can’t find the right sports bra" and "I am embarrassed by excessive breast movement" were the most influential breast related barriers to activity.

While breast pain increased with poor breast support, surprisingly, physical activity levels weren’t influenced by breast size, study author Emma Burnett of the University of Portsmouth's Research Group in Breast Health said in a release. Burnett said she hopes sports bra manufacturers will step up and show women the difference a good sports bra can make.

In the meantime, you could be wearing the wrong sports bra. That's why we've got you covered with the best sports bras for every body type.
