3 Amazing Features of the Apple Watch

Apple seriously took things to a new level this afternoon. Between the unveiling of iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus (they had us at longer battery life!), Apple Pay, which will virtually (no pun intended) erase the need for credit cards—not to mention the adorable commercial with Jimmy Fallon and Justin Timberlake—we were blown away. Then came Apple Watch.

“In a global sense, we're seeing a trend in wearable tech towards more visually appealing designs. Take, for example, Misfit's Shine and Pebble's #FreshHotFly neon line or even Neatatmo's June bracelet, which had the niche functionality of tracking sun exposure. You're going to wear this thing 24/7 so it better look good! With it's myriad customization options, the Apple Watch has surged to the head of the pack in this regard,” says Katie Linendoll, a regular tech contributor for the Today Show and CNN. “If I were a fitness tracking device or a smartphone manufacturer, I'd be worried," she adds. Our favorite things about Apple Watch? Read on.

It Takes Fitness Tracking to a Whole New Level
While we can't wait to send customizable emojis, sketches, and of course, the beating of our own hearts, Apple Watch's two apps that give a complete view of your overall health and fitness—whether you're an elite athlete or just want to ramp up your efforts in the gym—are pretty amazing. The Activity app monitors movement and the Workout app allows you to track calories, time, distance, and pace, as well as set goals and rewards. (It uses an accelerometer, a custom sensor that tracks your heart rate, and your iPhone’s GPS and Wi-Fi to measure distance.)

It's All Encompassing
The Apple Watch hones in on three aspects of movement, with the goal of making us sit less, move more, and squeeze in exercise. The ‘Move ring’ gives you an overview of how active you are and can measure calories burned; the ‘Exercise ring’ measures activity done at the level of a brisk walk or above; and the ‘Stand ring’ shows how often you’ve stood up to take a break from sitting. Apple Watch also claims to ‘get to know you over time the way a personal trainer would,’ and then suggest personal goals, and also share your data with the Health app where it can be accessed by third party apps.

It's Seriously Beautiful
That 14k rose gold option is everything! Since there are three distinct collections (Apple Watch, Apple Watch Sport, and Apple Watch Edition) and six different interchangeable straps (ranging from leather, to stainless steel, to a sport band), you can make the watch as sporty or stylish as you want.

The only downside? We have to wait until 2015 to get our hands on this bad boy.
