What's Trending with Tara: Distressed Boyfriend Jeans

The time has come to break up with summer and start flirting with the other seasons. A fun and easy way to change up your look from summer to fall is by introducing more denim. And right now, one type of denim that works particularly well is a rad pair of distressed boyfriend jeans.

I spent the last few weeks of August bopping around California, an awesome trip that came to an end this past weekend with a long plane ride back to New York. With hours of travel ahead of me, I wanted to feel comfortable—but didn’t want to let go of my Cali swagger! So I chose to rock my “new” vintage Levi’s 501 boyfriend jeans. Without putting much thought into it, I threw on a little black tank top (to balance the volume of the jeans—and withstand the 90-degree heat) and a pair of wedges to give myself some height and elongate my legs. Finally, I tossed a bomber-style sweatshirt into my carry-on to keep me warm on the plane. In less than five minutes, I was ready to fly.

The distressed boyfriend style is an optimal choice for right now because of how well it transitions from season to season. We can all agree that even though we want to work denim into our current get-ups, no one enjoys the feeling of peeling off a tight pair of skinny jeans after running around in too-humid temps. Luckily, distressed boyfriend jeans have a baggy fit with extra ventilation—plus holes to help your legs breathe—and a cropped style that makes them much more appealing and versatile for footwear. Try pairing these pants with ankle boots, wedge sneakers, or ballet flats for a casual, everyday fall look. You can even wear this outfit well into evening by putting on a sexy pair of stiletto heels or platform pumps for a look that screams chic. If they're not already cropped, try cuffing your BF jeans at the bottom to reveal a feminine ankle and balance the masculine nature of the denim.

As the weather cools down, top off your boyfriend jeans with a structured blazer or a fitted leather jacket in order to highlight your waistline. The options for wearing these jeans are limitless; the versatility, comfort, trendy, and transitional perks give this style of denim a leg up. Check out some of my favorite looks below to get inspiration for working these jeans into your fall wardrobe today.
