Your New Pick-Me-Up: Motto Matcha Tea Soda

If you happen to have a personal motto that drinking tea makes everything better (I have friends who do), you will be thrilled than to know there is an actual tea product called Motto.

Motto is a sparkling bottled beverage made from matcha, a powdered green tea and the only tea that comes from the entire leaf. It supposedly uses only top-quality leaves, delivering more of the health benefits than other types of green tea. These health benefits include reducing harmful cholesterol in the blood, stabilizing blood sugar levels, helping reduce high blood pressure, enhancing the body's resistance to many toxins, protecting against many kinds of cancer, helping prevent cardiovascular disease, and slowing the aging process.

According to Motto's website, “Every bottle of Motto contains essential plant nutrients that will energize your body, improve mental clarity, reduce stress, and promote vibrant health." Functional beverages like this one definitely seem to be on the rise these days, and while I am a fan of adding beneficial nutrients to a product, I also like to caution that there is no magic pill, or in this case bottle. Keep in mind too that according to the scientific community, not all the health claims on green tea can be substantiated.

However, if you happen to enjoy tea, I do believe there its room for a bottle a day of Motto in your diet. It is only 70 calories, contains antioxidants, has less caffeine than a cup of coffee (one-third to be exact), and only contains ingredients that are recognizable. Hands-down a better choice than many sugary bottled teas out there.

At the same time, how much a bottle of Motto is going to energize you, improve your mental clarity, etc,—that I don’t really know. Call me a skeptic, but I don’t think those kinds of things can be found in any bottle. I would advice someone to exercise, eat a healthy diet, and get lots of sleep way before I would recommend a single drink.
