A Cheeseburger and French Fry Slim-Down


When I signed up for this weight-loss journey, I panicked at the thought of never being able to sink my teeth into one of my favorite meals—a cheeseburger and fries again. But along the way, I've learned that alternatives to standard fast food fare do exist.

For example, swap the beef for turkey, lose the bun, bake your fries in the oven and add a side salad! Follow the tips below for a healthy cheeseburger and French fry makeover:

Preheat your oven to 450 degrees. Cut your choice of potato (skin on!) into French fry-size slices. I prefer red potatoes, but you can use white potatoes, baked potatoes or even sweet potatoes!

Spray a cookie sheet with olive oil cooking spray and add pre-cut fries. Season with your favorite spices. Mine are salt, pepper, oregano, and paprika. Pop them in the pre-heated oven and cook for 40 minutes.

While your fries are baking, season one pound of lean ground turkey with salt, pepper, garlic powder, chili powder, and a dash of Worcestershire sauce. Mix the spices and meat together with your hands to get all the spices evenly spread. Form the meat into four patties.

Spray a nonstick pan with olive oil cooking spray and cook the patties on both sides until brown and cooked through.

Add a slice of low-fat cheese to your turkey burger, or spread 1 wedge of Light Laughing Cow cheese (35 calories a pieace) onto your burger.

Make a side salad with your favorite veggies and dress it with oil and vinegar or a light vinaigrette.

Makeover your meal with these tips and you'll have yourself a healthy alternative to your usual cheeseburger and fries – without sacrificing taste or your waistline!
