My trainer recently told me how important it is to eat a little bit of protein right after strength training: Newly exercised muscles can absorb the nutrient better, helping them repair and grow. When I heard this, I immediately assumed I'd have to eat chicken or fish—not the easiest snack to bring with me to the gym! But my nutritionist, Katherine Tallmadge, R.D., suggested I drink a small skim latte. I'd never thought about it before, but it makes sense: There's protein in the milk. Now I really look forward to grabbing one post-workout. And after an especially tough session, I also add a dash of sugar-free vanilla syrup—it's a reward for a job well done.
