The temperatures here in L.A. are in the 70s, the sun is shining, and it's still light outside when I leave the office at 6:30. Spring is here! The changing weather motivated me to do something new this morning: Walk to work. I left super-early, so I could really take my time. I picked up a cup of coffee at Starbucks, strolled by the La Brea Tar Pits, checked out the sculptures outside the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, appreciated the flowers planted around one of my favorite buildings on Sixth Street, waved hello to the attendant in the lot I usually park in, and then made my way to the office. When I arrived (it took about 40 minutes), I felt energized and happy instead of tired and stressed. Plus, I had saved some cash on gas and burned a few extra calories. I’m lucky to live just a couple miles from my office, so until the temperatures soar, I’m going to take advantage and commute on foot at least three days a week. If you live within walking or biking distance of your job, give it a try!
