There are tons of benefits of taking a midday stroll. Leaving your desk boosts your energy, burns calories, reduces stress, and according to new research even extends your life expectancy. And tomorrow you have the perfect reason to slip on your flats and head outside: It’s the 4th Annual National Walk @ Lunch Day. The goal is to get every sandwich-at-her-desk worker to take a stroll—even just 10 minutes—during her break.
I have a fun way to do it: I’ve been wanting to try a falafel café I read about it in the New York Times, but it’s a good 16 blocks from my office. So come 1 p.m. tomorrow, I’m corralling my colleague Juno and we’re going for it. It should take about 30 minutes roundtrip (plenty of time to catch up on office gossip!), which equals 150 calories zapped. Jeez, if I made that effort every day, I could shed a pound a month! Who’s up for a walk?
