Last night, before the premiere of season 13 of Dancing with the Stars we asked SHAPE readers, staffers and friends who they wanted to see win the mirror ball trophy and the front runner was clear, Hope Solo. So how'd the soccer star and SHAPE favorite do? Pretty darn good.

Solo is paired with Maksim Chmerkovski who came in second place with Kirstie Alley on DWTS last year. We loved their pre-dance package in which Chmerkovski got in the goal and actually blocked a few shots from Solo. We were impressed by his soccer skills but have a feeling Solo was going easy on him! The pair had great chemistry on the field, and the dance floor, but one thing did bother us. Solo seems to think being sporty and strong are mutually exclusive from being girly. We have no problem with kettlebells and crystals! Hopefully as DWTS season 13 progresses Solo will find her feminine side because we want to see what she can bring to the ballroom. For now it looks like her score of 21 will be enough to keep her in the competition.

Other DWTS cast members we're loving right now are David Arquette who was shockingly smooth and had a beautiful energy during the Viennese Waltz which earned him 18 points. Plus, who can resist when the camera cut to smiling and supportive ex-wife Courteney Cox and daughter Coco.

Nothing was more fun then watching Carson Kressley's Cha Cha Cha with Anna Trebunskaya. Before rehearsals he may have told Trebunskaya," I'm not the best dancer. I kind of put the ‘c' in caucasian," but after dancing to Maroon 5's ‘Moves Like Jagger," judge Len Goodman said, "There were elements of Jagger, swagger and stagger," and we agree. Kresssley earned 17 points putting him in seventh place but we think we'll be seeing more of his sparkle and shine.

Also earning 17 points were Chaz Bono and Lacey Schwimmer possibly the most anticipated couple of the night. Rehearsals looked rough, with a frustrated Bono, but the smile on his face when he hit the dance floor for the Cha Cha Cha lit up the ballroom. We were impressed by how well Bono hit his marks and based on the standing ovation we think this pair is an early fan favorite and are in it for the long haul.

How did the rest of the Dancing With the Stars cast fare in week 1 of season 13?

Chynna Phillips and Tony Dovolani earned 22 points

JR Martinez and Karina Smirnoff also scored 22 points

Ricki Lake and Derek Hough scored 20 points
