Adele Gets Real About Getting Healthy
When She Took a Break
As we know, rest is a major part of staying healthy. After suffering a vocal hemorrhage in 2011, the songstress was forced to have surgery, which in turn made her more health conscious than ever before. As she recovered, Adele took a much-needed break from singing and writing music. During this time, she also gave birth to her son, who she says gave her a major reality-check. "He makes me be a d---head, and he makes me feel young," she told i-D Magazine
in an interview. "There's nothing more grounding than a kid kicking off and refusing to do what you're asking of them."

When She Was Bummed About Giving Up Certain Foods
In order to ensure her iconic voice stays in top shape post-surgery, Adele had to give up caffeine, spicy foods, and anything with citrus. Of her new eating rules, she said "It's f*cking boring... But I don't think you take [your voice] seriously until you've had an incident. I'm frightened all the time I'm going to damage my voice." No matter how famous you are or how much help you have, sticking to an eating plan for health or medical reasons is tough.

When She Explained What It's Like to Quit Smoking
In 2015, Adele quit smoking and seriously curbed her drinking. Of smoking, she told Rolling Stone
: "I absolutely loved it, but it's not that f*cking cool when I'm dying from a smoking-related illness and my kid is, like, devastated." True that. She also said in the same interview that she's cut down to one alcoholic drink per week, which is way below the CDC's recommended intake of one alcoholic drink per day for women. (BTW, here's why women who exercise are also more likely to drink alcohol.)

When She Worked On Her Fitness
After her hiatus, Adele was back and better than ever. When discussing her new fitness habits with Vogue
earlier this year, she said: "I was trying to get some stamina for my tour, so I lost a bit of weight. Now I fit into normal, off-the-shelf clothes—which is a really big problem for me!" Some of that weight loss was undoubtedly due to the time she spent sweating it out in the gym.

When She Slammed Body Shamers
Adele's confidence on stage is totally inspirational. Unfortunately, that didn't stop people from making comments about her size. After she shed some pounds in 2015 (a revamped eating style and cutting out alcohol will do that!), the media took notice of her different physique. "I've always been asked questions about my body and my weight and my size and my style and stuff like that," she told 60 Minutes Australia. "But other than that it seemed to astound people that I was plus size and being successful, that was how I felt." Not cool. She added: "I don't care anyway. You don't see music, you listen to music, so what does it even matter?" Our thoughts exactly.
