Dancing with the Stars Season 14 Cast: An Inside Look
SHAPE predicts which DWTS cast members will lead the pack this season
We were glued to out TV set at 7 a.m. awaiting the Good Morning America season 14 Dancing with the Stars cast reveal and finally, after 75 minutes of teasing (including a little Jolie-ing by pros Derek Hough and Cheryl Burke) the DWTS cast was revealed! We know it's early to pick fan favorites but here at SHAPE we're already placing bets on who will be the season 14 DWTS champion! Read on to see who will be competing for the mirror ball trophy and who we expect to see leading the pack.
We were thrilled to see TV personality Maria Menounos join the season 14 cast of Dancing with the Stars. After spending a day with her in the SHAPE offices we are huge fans and think she will do well, especially paired with Brooke Burke Charvet's season 7 winning partner, Derek Hough. And while she may have stumbled on the way out on stage this morning, stepping on Brooke's foot as she went in for a hug, we know she can keep her cool in front of the camera-and she can definitely pull off the body-baring costumes!
We think three-time Dancing with the Stars champ Kym Johnson has a shot at the mirror ball trophy yet again, and it seems that she agrees. She told hosts Tom Bergeron and Burke Charvet that partner Jaleel White, "walked in and was all sexy and buff" at their first meeting and that it went really well. The actor, who is famous for his role as Steve Urkel, seemed to have a few moves when he came out on stage and received one of the largest reactions from the GMA audience. This is one pair we definitely expect to see until the end.
Singer-songwriter Gavin Degraw, who entered the stage to the largest round of applause, has been paired with last year's championKarina Smirnoff and, with their apparent chemistry and his popularity, DWTS season 14 may have a repeat winner. When asked by the hosts if she takes it easy with her dancing partners in the beginning Smirnoff responded, "I think we took it way easy last night." To which Degraw answered, "yeah, Karina took it easy on me last night" causing a bit of embarrassment and blushing from his professional partner.
Sure rumors that Maxim Chmerkovskiy would not return swirled after his outburst on Dancing with the Stars season 13 but we knew he'd be back! Partnered with Emmy nominated actress Melissa Gilbert we're not sure what to expect! The couple came on stage with a twirl and a dip but when asked about being paired with Gilbert the controversial Chmerkovskiy answered, "My partner's all right. I'm happy to be back." Let's see what Max has in store for us on Dancing with the Stars season 14!
Returning for his second season, Max's brother Val Chmerkovskiy has been paired with fan favorite Sherri Shepherd. We can't wait to see these two in action. Shepherd has been vocal about wanting to join the DWTS cast for a long time and walked on stage with more sass and confidence than anyone else but she admits to being nervous. Plus, when asked about being paired with The View co-host Chmerkovskiy responded, " I have the best partner here, with all due respect."
Disney channel star, Roshon Fegan is paired with six-time DWTS pro Chelsie Hightower making them the resident "young couple." In fact, while Bergeron interviewed the pair DWTS cast mate Sherri Shepherd shouted, "can somebody get my Bengay, please?" drawing attention to how much younger the pair is. Hightower hasn't faired well in past DWTS seasons but Fegan, who is also a rapper and hip hop producer, had some moves as he grooved onto the stage.
On the other end of the spectrum, eight-time Grammy winner Glady's Knight joins the DWTS cast with second time pro Tristan MacManus. Last year, MacManus was paired with Nancy Grace who had trouble loosening up on the dance floor and, even though we know Ms. Knight's got rhythm we think MacManus may have a tough partner again-but we'd love to be proven wrong! The audience loved the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer and we love her attitude. On why she decided to do the show she said, "socially I've always loved to dance. I'm not saying I can but that's what made me want to do it."
You can never tell with the football players, will they have smooth moves or be stiff and awkward? Superbowl champion and all-time leading receiver for the Green Bay Packers Donald Driver is paired with professional dancer Peta Murgatroyd. It's only Murgatroyd's second season and she didn't last long with NBA player Ron Artest but we still want to see what the NFL pro and author of three children's books will do this season.
a top 40 singer who, you may know from his roles on General Hospital, Melrose Place and most recently The Bold and the Beautiful, has been paired with nine-time DWTS pro Anna Trebunskaya. We're not sure how long he'll last but they sure do make a cute couple!
Soccer star Hope Solo didn't fair as well as we had expected last season but we are thrilled to see another female athlete, tennis star, Martina Navratilova join the Dancing with the Stars season 14 cast. We loved her silly dance on stage this morning and with 59 Grand Slam Championships under her belt and a seasoned partner like Toni Dovolani we may have a winner on our hands!
He couldn't be at the DWTS season 14 reveal but telanovela star William Levy will be joining the Dancing with the Stars cast with pro dancer Cheryl Burke. Best known for his steamy role in Jennifer Lopez's video "I'm Into You," we wouldn't mind if the "Brad Pitt of Mexico" stuck around, at least for a few open-shirted dances! Working with 13 season DWTS veteran dancer and two-time winner Burke, he may make the cut!
Opera star Katherine Jenkins could not be at the season 14 Dancing with the Stars cast reveal either but don't worry, she's been on DWTS before. During season 12 she guest performed one of her songs-let's see how she does on the dance floor! Paired with two-time champ, 10-time DWTS pro Mark Ballas, the platinum recording artist has a good chance of doing well this season on Dancing with the Stars.
