Lena Dunham Says She Feels So Much Healthier After Her 24 Pound Weight Gain

Lena Dunham has spent years fighting against the pressure to conform to society's standard of beauty. She's previously pledged that she'll no longer pose for photos that will be retouched and has even publically called out publications for doing so, making it crystal clear that she's no one's weight-loss cover girl.

And just today she shared two side-by-side photos of herself opening up about her 24-pound weight gain, and why she's totally cool with it.

On the left: 138 pounds, complimented all day and propositioned by men and on the cover of a tabloid about diets that work. Also, sick in the tissue and in the head and subsisting only on small amounts of sugar, tons of caffeine and a purse pharmacy. On the right: 162 pounds, happy joyous & free, complimented only by people that matter for reasons that matter, subsisting on a steady flow of fun/healthy snacks and apps and entrees, strong from lifting dogs and spirits. Even this OG body positivity warrior sometimes looks at the left picture longingly, until I remember the impossible pain that brought me there and onto my proverbial knees. As I type I can feel my back fat rolling up under my shoulder blades. I lean in.

In the photo on the left, Dunham says she weighed 138 pounds. "[I was] complimented all day and propositioned by men and on the cover of a tabloid about diets that work," she wrote, referring to the image. (Related: Lena Dunham Opens Up About Struggling with Rosacea and Acne)

Despite her slimmer appearance, Dunham says she suffered from a plethora of health issues. She wrote that she was, "sick in the tissue and in the head and subsisting only on small amounts of sugar, tons of caffeine and a purse pharmacy."

The photo on the right, however, shows Dunham today. She weighs 162 pounds and is "happy joyous & free, complimented only by people that matter for reasons that matter," she wrote. Instead of restricting her diet and having no energy, Dunham says she depends, "on a steady flow of fun/healthy snacks and apps and entrees" and is "strong from lifting dogs and spirits." Sure, Dunham admits she isn't 100 percent in love with herself every second of the day, but she's quick to say why she's much happier now. "Even this OG body positivity warrior sometimes looks at the left picture longingly, until I remember the impossible pain that brought me there and onto my proverbial knees," she wrote. "As I type I can feel my back fat rolling up under my shoulder blades. I lean in." (Related: Can We Stop Body-Shaming Lena Dunham Yet?)

Dunham deserves applause for always being so transparent about her journey to self-love and candid feelings about her body. This most recent post serves as a great reminder that you should never judge someone's health by looks alone, and, not to mention that losing weight is not the secret to happiness.
