Strength Secrets from the Women of the Gridiron
If you thought the NFL was tough, think again. The ladies of the Legends Football League are seriously legit. The global sport is one of the nation’s fastest growing and it’s easy to see why; not only are the women incredible athletes, they look pretty killer in lingerie, to boot. Combining sporting competition with entertainment, these gorgeous Gridiron girls train hard. But before tonight’s Legends Cup USA final match-up of the season, we had to steal some of the strength secrets from the league’s top players.
Chelsey Haardt, Los Angeles Temptation
Strength secret: Adding plyometric movements and isometric hold work to your daily warm-up routine will pay off huge. These two strength-training tools are definitely my new secret weapons to becoming a stronger and more explosive athlete!
Favorite workout move: It’s a tie between the deadlift and power clean. I love how simple and primal the deadlift movement can be and there is almost nothing cooler than deadlifting or watching someone deadlift double body weight and beyond. I also love how complex the power clean movement is. Literally, people can spend their whole training careers perfecting their power clean technique.
Cynthia Schmidt, Las Vegas Sin
Strength secret: Phase 1 Sports! The facility that I train at works with professional athletes. So to be training next to and doing the exact same things as NFL players and other professional athletes keeps me inspired. Oh, and of course, I can beat them in most of the drills!
Favorite workout move: Trapbar deadlift is one of my favorite exercises. It works full body explosiveness and of course the glutes. As an athlete, I like to keep everything explosive so trapbar and a lot of plyometric exercises stay in my routines pretty consistently.
Deena Nichole Fagiano, Chicago Bliss
Strength secret: Don't be afraid to lift weights. I did tons of cardio for years thinking it would help "make me skinnier", but it wasn't until I started to incorporate weight training into my workouts that I saw my body change.
Favorite workout move: I love incorporating a little bit of everything, but my favorite moves are pull-ups, chin-ups, push-ups, and core workouts. You can always push yourself to your own limit and continue to increase reps as you build strength.
Lauran Ziegler, Jacksonville Breeze
Strength secret: I am a Crossfit athlete. The secret is to build and keep your stamina up to lifts and be able to do the assigned workouts as fast as you can. It's all time based.
Favorite workout move: I love weight lifting, but I can honestly say my favorite move is the squat clean.
Carmen Bourseau, Los Angeles Temptation
Strength secret: Don’t stick to one training program. Change up your exercise program, mix up the exercise order, change the number of sets, and vary your recovery time. In order to further physical development and break plateaus you have to be willing to make changes and push barriers.
Favorite workout move: I love training lower body since it is where all my power comes from. My favorite workout move is squats because you use over 200 muscles and burn the most to build overall strength.
Alli Alberts, Chicago Bliss
Strength secret: Don't ever stop. I make the most out of my time at the gym by never taking any breaks between exercises/reps; super setting and circuits all day for me.
Favorite workout move: Definitely V-ups because it means I'm at the end of my workout, and I can do more than any boy who tries to do them with me.

Strength secret: Consistency—if you don't use it, you lose it!
Favorite workout move: Squats. A nice butt is the way to a man’s heart! With all my workouts, my biggest fitness accomplishment would definitely have to be my weight gain. I went from 133 pounds to 150 pounds. which was my goal, and I was solid. I love every bit of it!
