The Top 10 Best-Dressed Stars at the Golden Globes
Why: “Charlize has the most amazing, toned legs and she was able to show these off while still being completely appropriate and classy,” Patrickson says. “She has a boyish figure and the fabric on the hip gave her more shape and curves.”
Tip: For boyish or inverted triangle shapes (larger bust and smaller hips), Patrickson advises choosing a form-fitting frock with detailing on the waist to emphasize the hips and give you more shape. “Showing some skin can give your look a feminine air... just not too much!”
Dress: Vera Wang
Why: “This woman knows how to dress for her figure, that's for certain!” Albanese says. “Her dress fits like a glove.”
Tip: Curvaceous girls shouldn’t be afraid to choose figure-hugging gowns to show off those curves. “Vergara’s gown maximizes her shape without making her look bigger than she is,” Albanese says. “The major fishtail detail really added the wow factor without adding any extra bulk in the wrong places.”
Dress: Zac Posen
Why: It’s safe to say Elle is still ‘The Body Macpherson’ in this dress. “Elle definitely has the height to pull off this dramatic gown. The strapless top really showed off her toned arms,” Patrickson says.
Tip: Shapes like MacPherson can really wear anything, but “she has to be careful to keep it sassy yet also age appropriate,” Patrickson says. “She has chosen very carefully which assets to show off and the rest are kept under wraps!”
Why: “This is a lot of dress for a petite girl but she owned it! It fit her snug in all the right places,” Albanese says. “The gunmetal color kept the whole look sleek and seductive.”
Tip: A long sleeve, form-fitting dress is “the perfect choice if you want to cover-up for cooler temperatures but still look sexy,” Albanese says.
Dress: Zac Posen
Why: “Reese brought out her inner bombshell rocking this sensual blood red Zac Posen. It’s a simple dress but the bold color makes it a showstopper,” Patrickson says. “The structure and paneling in this dress created and showed off Reese’s tiny waist.”
Tip: According to Patrickson, “paneling and structure are an instant fix to create an elegant silhouette. It’s also the perfect way to hide any unwanted jiggle!”
Dress: Atelier Versace
Why: “Angelina looked drop dead!” Albanese says. “The draping at the waist is impeccable and draws your eye to how small her waist is.”
Tip: For tall, slim boyish figures like Jolie, “choose dresses with draping across the waist and hips to create a more voluptuous silhouette,” Albanese says. “Dresses like Jolie’s are perfect for a girl looking for a little love in the curves area!”
Why: “Never one to disappoint, Salma wowed in the sexy strapless Gucci stunner. She has the most incredibly sensual figure with the perfect curves,” Patrickson says. “She was able to play up to those curves by choosing a figure-hugging sequined dress which really caught the light and gave her the perfect hourglass silhouette.”
Tip: If you have curves, embrace them! “Wear tailored, well-fitted but not too-tight outfits,” Patrickson says. “Avoid baggy clothes that add bulk and make your womanly figure look matronly.”
Dress: J. Mendel
Why: “The tailoring and structure of this dress, along with the classic black-and-white color combo is polished and ladylike,” Albanese says.
Tip: “Choosing clothing with structure instantly defines and shapes your figure because of the clean lines and tailoring,” Albanese says.
Why: “She kept it quirky and true to her unique style, looking glamorous and fresh,” Patrickson says. “The geometric shape pulls the eye to her upper half, and the black skirt minimizes her lower half.”
Tip: Solid darker colors on your lower half can create the illusion of smaller hips, making you less pear-shaped, Patrickson says. “Color and sparkle on the upper half will draw the eye up.”
Dress: Julienne McDonald
Why: “Absolutely exquisite! This liquid silver slim-fitting gown, high neckline, and up-swept hair exposes her petite figure and flaunts her arms,” Albanese says.
Tip: It you’re petite, keep it simple. “Sometimes petite actresses wear these gigantic dresses that are hard to pull off, and I'm happy she kept it streamlined,” Albanese says.
