Alicia Vikander has been making headlines for her transformation into iconic action hero Lara Croft in the new Tomb Raider reboot.

Turns out, the Swedish actress developed an eight-pack and gained 12 pounds of muscle while training for the role, which, as you can imagine, required a ton of hard work. (Related: The Best Body Transformations For a Movie Role)

Vikander followed "The Magnus Method," a training plan designed for professional athletes created by personal trainer Magnus Lygdbäck. Together, they focused on heavy strength training, climbing, and MMA-starting six months before shooting began. (Here's Why You Should Give MMA a Shot)

Once filming started, Vikander would often work out before hair and makeup, which sometimes meant 4 a.m. wake-up calls, according to USA Today.

Magnus was impressed with her progress. "She went from doing zero push-ups and pull-ups to doing a bunch of them, which showed she not only looked strong, she was strong," Magnus tells Shape. (Related: My 30-Day Mission to Finally Master a Push-Up)

"I've never been able to lift my own weight, and the day when you have that capacity, it's pretty empowering," Vikander told Elle of her new-found strength back when she wrapped up shooting for the film.

If Vikander didn't already have killer confidence (you know, from being a famous actress and Oscar winner), being able to lift her own bodyweight is sure to do the trick.
