Celeb Workouts You've Never Heard of
The latest (and weirdest) ways the stars sweat it out.
There are a couple of things that separate us regular folk from Hollywood A-listers. Yes, they have the million dollar Malibu homes and plastic surgeons on speed dial but, just like the rest of us, they have to work to get those hot bodies. So, we did some digging to find out the top celebrity workouts you've never heard of (until now).
While fitness fiends Madonna, George Clooney, and Mark Wahlberg forego crowded exercise classes to work out one-on-one with personal trainers, they can't sweat it out on any regular old nautilus machine. They use the swanky fitness equipment from Italian company Technogym. Designed by a renowned architect, The Kineses Personal is a popular piece of Technogym equipment that allows for more than 200 resistance-based exercises for a full-body workout that will improve strength, flexibility, and balance, says the company.
Booiaka (pronounced BOO-yaka) Movement
Mario Lopez has busted a move to this hip-hop inspired workout that's designed to mimic a night out in the clubs (minus the fist-pumping). While classes are currently only available in select cities, you can join the movement at home with one of the workout DVD's.
Pilates and spinning are two workouts that don't seem to go together, but celebrity trainer Heather Dorak merged the two (30 minutes of each) for a viable workout method enjoyed by the likes of Ali Larter, Hayden Panettiere, and Marcia Cross.
Yoga Tune Up
Ellen Degeneres, Sarah Jessica Parker, and Ryan Seacrest have all toned up using this unique yoga-inspired "tune up." Fitness expert and creator Jill Miller says the workout pinpoints muscles that are overused and "abused" and uses a blend of yoga, self massage, and calisthenics to keep injuries at bay.
You thought it was just something you did for fun as a kid, but smart celebs like Marisa Tomei, Olivia Wilde, Beyonce and Michelle Obama are burning 300-600 calories an hour doing it. Hoopnotica (aka hula-hooping) burns fat and strengthens your core. Give it a spin for yourself at Hoopnotica.com.
The Bar Method™
The Bar Method™ incorporates interval training (for fat burning), isometrics (for muscle sculpting), and dance to "re-shape" the body using a variety of exercises on a ballet barre. Drew Barrymore, Olivia Wilde, and Eliza Dushku have all channeled their inner Black Swan with this method, and now you can too, in 44 locations across 12 states. Dushku even tweeted her love for the workout, saying it makes [her body] "tight yet fluid, flexible, and graceful."
OK, so it's technically not a workout, but celebrities like Kim Zolciak, Kris Jenner, and Tyra Banks have all reportedly lost inches from this mummy-like wrap that also claims to diminish cellulite.
Stand Up Paddle
It's no secret stars are trendsetters, whether it's in fashion or watersports! Jennifer Aniston, Kate Hudson, Jennifer Garner, and Rihanna are just a few of the buff babes who've hopped on board for this ancient derivative of surfing.
It's been around for nearly twenty years, but young Hollywood is loving CrossFit's mix of cardio, weightlifting, and plyometrics. Jessica Biel and Malin Ackerman are reportedly fans of the exercise that uses intense bursts of activity to get fast results.
