Healthy Lessons from the Season Premiere of The Real Housewives of New York City
Season 4 of the Real Housewives of New York City premiered last night, and as one of our favorite guilty pleasures it did not disappoint. The premiere episode was packed with new catch phrases and made-up words (Jillous, anyone?) and a new housewife who does vajeweling for a living-we did mention the made-up words right? And while we embrace Real Housewives of New York City as the guilty pleasure that it is we've decided to look for the SHAPE girl buried deep inside each housewife that we hope to see emerge throughout the season.
Real Housewife of New York City #1: Jill Zarin-The nice girl
Known for her searing looks and catty comments Jill Zarin has made a commitment to "being nice" on this season of RHONYC. While Jill did slip-up a few times in the first episode we're going to give her the benefit of the doubt. Like we say with new workout routines-fake it ‘til you make it, right?
Real Housewife of New York City #2: Alex McCord-Embracing her body
We are always preaching body confidence here at SHAPE, and we love that newly signed model Alex McCord embraces her body and can say it out loud. "Maybe it's arrogant, but when I look in the mirror, I like what I see." Nope, we don't think it's arrogant to feel that way or to admit it, it's just in the frequency and tone of the delivery. Let's work on that one this season, Alex.
Real Housewife of New York City #3: Cindy Barshop-Focusing on fitness
The newest housewife of New York City, Cindy Barshop, had a whole workout montage in her debut episode. Yes, we love that fitness is an important part of her life but darn it, we love montages too!
Real Housewives of New York City #4 & #5: LuAnn de Lesseps & Sonja Morgan -The double dating duo
Housewives LuAnn de Lesseps and Sonja Morgan didn't play a huge role in the first episode of RHONYC but we would like to say good work bringing on the boys. And who doesn't love a double date? Love and relationships are a huge part of a healthy and happy life. We're glad to see the girls are getting out there and dating!
Real Housewife of New York City #6: Ramona Singer-A healthier happy hour
There is always plenty of drinking to be had amongst the real housewives of New York City and we'd like to acknowledge Ramona Singer for launching her own Pinot Grigio. We think there is room for a few cocktails in a healthy diet. Now, with Bethany Frankel and her skinny girl margarita gone, the other housewives of New York City can turn to Ramona for a low calorie cocktail. White wine has just 100 calories per glass (that's per glass Alex).

We're all about making the situation you're in right now work for you. Tight on time? Do a 5-minute workout routine. Running late? Grab a healthy fast food breakfast. Traveling? Learn how to make a healthy meal at the airport. We love that Kelly Killoren Bensimon acknowledges the craziness that is The Real Housewives of New York City, "Am I put in precarious circumstances a lot with these women? Yeah. Do I navigate in those circumstances well? Nope." The first step is acknowledging the situation. We hope to see Kelly learn to cope with the other housewives as season 4 unfolds.
