Kombucha tea has been lauded by nutritionists for it's healthy benefits, but after the recent news that Lindsay Lohan blamed her kombucha tea consumption for failing an alcohol test, we got to wondering. How much alcohol is really in kombucha tea?

We asked Jasmine Jafferali, a nutrition expert, Educational and Wellness Consultant and Master Trainer for Healthy Moms Fitness for the skinny on kombucha and alcohol content.

"They do advise expecting moms not to drink it due to trace amounts of alcohol," Jafferali says. "But the FDA/CDC says it is safe." According to the TMZ article, the alcohol content in the kombucha tea that Lohan is drinking is less than .05 percent. Obviously, you'd have to drink "quite a bit" for it to register on a test, Jaffrali says.
