As JLo just launches her new partnership with lifestyle brand BodyLab, she's dishing on how she balances a career, family, and her own happiness
Jennifer Lopez kicked off the New Year promoting her latest project BodyLab, the new wellness brand—designed for women by women—that makes unique protein blends. “BodyLab for me is the latest manifestation of the passion I have to be the best me,” the singer said. And it’s more than just protein powder: BodyLab is about empowering, encouraging, enabling, and educating women to love their bodies, to be strong, confident, and the happiest versions of themselves, she adds. On Educating Yourself
Jennifer Lopez: Growing up in the Bronx I grew up on a diet of delicious, but not so healthy food. I began to learn more about nutrition, exercise, and the benefits of a tailored program for women specifically—things that are made for women by women. Most products on the shelf today were developed based on the physiology of men, with no consideration at all for the bodies of women and how they work. Now, just to be clear, this is not a solution in a bottle. It’s not about a quick fix. Its about having supplements that work and help your body work as much as you are willing to work to achieve your goals.
On What Gets In the Way
JL: We all have our challenges with healthy living. My workout is scheduled for 9 p.m. tonight after my kids go to bed. Am I looking forward to this? No, I’m not. Am I thinking about canceling? Yes. Will I cancel? No! Because I am a work in progress, a woman in progress, and that’s the dedication that it takes. Having these supplements will only help your body work better for you. On Finding Time for You
JL: It’s a juggling act. Take care of the kids, work, make everybody at the office happy and make everybody at BodyLab happy—every single day it’s like trying to keep all the balls in the air. But at the end of the day you have to schedule time for you. You have to make time for the things that make you feel good, like good nutrition and good exercise, good rest. You can’t be great for others if you’re not great, so you have to find the time to do you. You have to find the time to really take time for yourself and not everything else all the time, which I believe women in particular tend to do.
On BodyLab’s Tagline ‘Be The Girl of Your Dreams’
JL: When somebody says, “She’s the girl of my dreams!” it means that they are totally in love with her, who she is, how she looks—everything about her they love. When we use the tagline “Be the girl of your dreams,” that’s what you have to be for yourself. You have to be in love with everything about yourself and that’s been a lot of my message in my music and in my book. My message is about learning to love yourself. On Why the Average Woman Will Love BodyLab
JL: At the end of the day there’s no magic pill. But we’ve tried to make it easy and effective and maintainable. You have this community online that becomes your cheer section, your support system. That really helps—and it’s free! BodyLab gives you recipes and it workout ideas. It really tailors it for you. It’s very good for people who cant afford to go to a gym because it has ideas about how to workout at home, quickly. It’s really a great website and the app is awesome in helping you tailor a plan for yourself.
On Her Favorite Product
JL: I’m really into doing a shake in the morning. I don’t know about you, but I’m usually in a rush in the morning and these shakes are great. I like the chocolate a lot! It makes me feel light in the morning, like I can move, and energized. I start off feeling healthy, I want to eat better throughout the day. Even if I eat a little bit too much chicken or a lot of vegetables, it makes me think right off the bat, “I’m eating healthy today. JL: I think at a certain point, women especially around my age, we’ve given up. We have kids and a career and so many responsibilities, and we give up on ourselves.
