The gorgeous actress shares her outlook on fitness, diet, and the exciting new phase in her life in the latest issue of Shape
This month, the gorgeous and sporty Kate Hudson appears on the cover of Shape for the second time, making us seriously envious of her killer abs! The 35-year-old award-winning actress and mom of two looks incredible rocking her own activewear line, Fabletics—and pink-tinted hair in honor of family and friends who are breast cancer survivors.
Hudson has always been a thrill-seeker—she grew up competing with a houseful of boys—and her current fitness regime is intense. “I’ve been switching up from the softer stuff, like Pilates and yoga, to more aggressive activities like TRX and boxing. I really enjoy sweating it out, and it helps clear my mind," she says.
To Hudson, staying active is critical to keeping a sane perspective and bringing on a good mood. “It’s not just about trying to look good physically, it’s important to get oxygen to my brain and feel like my blood is really circulating," she says. "I love skiing, walking, hiking, and especially riding my bike. It makes me feel like I’m a kid again!”
As for the idea of a ‘diet’? “I hate the idea,” Hudson says. “It puts so much pressure on people to lose weight quickly. Getting healthy is not a two-week process, it’s a change of lifestyle.” Rather than going the personal chef route, Hudson insists on making most of her family's meals. “Taking the time to cook your own food and enjoying the process of feeding yourself can change your life.”
When it comes to the age-old question of balancing a hectic career and being a mom, her standby for keeping calm is meditation. “My mom did it when I was a kid. She taught me to take time for myself and be alone. Sometimes it’s just staring at a wall, but if you can really be quiet, that’s when you start to refocus.”
