News and Trends Celebrity News Bebe Rexha Reminds Us What Real Women Look Like with an Unedited Bikini Pic Her Instagram post called out the fact that most of the time, bikini pics on social media are a far cry from reality. Shape's editorial guidelines Published on May 20, 2019 Share Tweet Pin Email Photo: Getty Images Thanks to social media, exposure to photos of airbrushed models with seemingly perfect washboard abs is pretty much unavoidable. These ads and 'candid' photos can start to skew your reality of what's 'normal' — and make the idea of posting a bikini pic without any retouching or filters completely nerve-wracking. ( Lili Reinhart On Unrealistic Body Standards and 'Trying to Navigate My Fluctuating Weight' But if Grammy-nominated singer Bebe Rexha was afraid of sharing a beach pic sans Photoshop, she sure as hell didn't let it show. The star took to Instagram to share an unedited photo of herself living her best life while on vacay in Puerto Rico. Her caption called out the fact that most of the time, bikini pics on Instagram are heavily edited before they make it to your feed, which can set unrealistic expectations for women of how they 'should' look. "I probably should have photoshopped my stomach and made it look flat," she wrote alongside the empowering pic. "I probably should have photoshopped my legs to make them look thinner. I probably should have made myself look taller and smoothed my legs. But I didn't." Rexha's post is more than just a reminder that bikini pics are often carefully curated and edited before they're made public. The singer is sending a message to women everywhere that it's okay to embrace yourself exactly as you are and to show off your true and authentic self, regardless of what others might think. "Society can really f**k with you," Rexha wrote. "Here is what a real woman looks like on Instagram without photoshop." ( Bebe Rexha Revealed She's Been Diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder This isn't the first time the singer has expressed her no-nonsense take on body image. In 2019, she revealed that some designers refused to dress her for the Grammy's because of her size. "You're saying all the women in the world that are a size 8 and up are not beautiful and that they cannot wear your dresses," she said in a video on Instagram. "So to all the people who said I'm thick and I can't wear your dress, f**k you, I don't want to wear your f**king dresses." Rexha has also clapped back at haters who've shamed her for her weight. "Yes I gained weight," she wrote alongside a photo of herself last year. "'Cause I'm human and I like to eat. And when I eat carbs my ass gets big." ( Why Body-Shaming Is Such a Big Problem and What You Can Do to Stop It One thing is clear about Bebe Rexha: She has a keen sense for what people will say about her, but at the end of the day, she doesn't give a damn about anyone's opinion of her but her own. And frankly, she shouldn't. Was this page helpful? Thanks for your feedback! Tell us why! Other Submit
