Beyoncé Shared How She Met Her Weight-Loss Goals for Coachella
The superstar followed a plant-based eating regimen called 22 Days Nutrition.
Beyoncé's Coachella performance last year was nothing short of spectacular. As you can imagine, a lot went into prepping for the highly-anticipated show—part of which included Bey revamping her diet and exercise routine.
In a new YouTube video, the singer documented what it took for her to lose weight and feel her best ahead of her Coachella performance.
The video starts with her stepping on the scale 22 days before the show. "Good morning, it's 5 a.m., and this is day one of rehearsals for Coachella," she says, revealing her starting weight to the camera. "Long way to go. Let's get it."
For those who might not know, Beyoncé was set to headline Coachella two years ago. But she had to delay until 2018 after getting pregnant with her twins, Rumi and Sir Carter.
In her recent Netflix documentary, Homecoming, she shared that she was 218 pounds after giving birth. She subsequently followed a strict diet so she could meet her goals: "I'm limiting myself to no bread, no carbs, no sugar, no dairy, no meat, no fish, no alcohol," she said in the documentary.
Now, in her new YouTube video, Beyoncé shared how 22 Days Nutrition, a plant-based diet created by exercise physiologist Marco Borges, helped her stay committed. (Related: Here's What We Know About Beyoncé's New Adidas Collection)
"We know the power of vegetables; we know the power of plants; we know the power of foods that are unprocessed and as close to nature as possible," Borges says in the video. "It's just [about]

It's not clear what Beyoncé's meals looked like while prepping for Coachella—the video shows quick, grainy clips of salads, various vegetables like carrots and tomatoes, as well as fruits like strawberries—but 22 Days Nutrition's website says the plan offers personalized meal recommendations that include "a delicious variety of beans, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, and delectable herbs and spices." Additionally, each recipe is "taste-tested and approved by a team of nutritionists and food experts to provide your body with energizing, whole plant foods," per the website.
Beyoncé followed the diet plan for 44 days ahead of Coachella, according to the video.
Along with following a strict diet, Bey also put in hours at the gym. The video shows her working out with Borges using resistance bands, dumbbells, and a Bosu ball. ICYMI, this isn't the first time Beyoncé and her husband JAY-Z have worked with 22 Days Nutrition. They previously teamed up with Borges' The Greenprint Project, which encourages people to follow plant-based diets to help the environment.
The couple even wrote the foreword to Borges' book and offered two lucky fans a chance to win free tickets to their shows for life if they were willing to become more plant-based.
"We are not about promoting any one way of living your life," they wrote. "You decide what's best for you. What we are encouraging is for everyone to incorporate more plant-based meals into their everyday lives."
