Beyoncé Dressed Up As Florence Griffith Joyner for Halloween
Beyoncé's Flo-Jo look was the best celeb Halloween costume of 2018—not up for debate.
Beyoncé has rocked some epic Halloween costumes-Barbie, Lil Kim, Frida Kahlo-but this year's look is our favorite. For her second costume this year (following a Toni Braxton look), Beyoncé suited up as Olympian Florence Griffith Joyner. (Try this Beyoncé-inspired dance workout.)
She copied the clothes that Griffith Joyner wore at the 1988 U.S. Olympic trials to a tee. The Apeshit singer wore Flo-Jo's magenta one-legged Adidas tracksuit and bib, cleats, and orange nails. He dressed as Tommie Smith, an Olympian who won a gold medal in the men's 200 meter in 1969. He famously bowed his head and raised a black-gloved fist on the victory podium to protest racial injustice in America, similar to Colin Kaepernick kneeling during the national anthem.
If this is the first you're hearing of Griffith Joyner, here's a brief history: She became the fastest woman in the world in 1988, breaking the world records for the 100-meter and 200-meter races. She still holds both, though she passed away in 1998. She also has a reputation as one of the best-dressed Olympians to date. She'd crossed the finish line wearing jewelry, six-inch nails, and even a white lace tracksuit.
Twitter unanimously approved of Beyoncé's costume choice. Many people are pumped at the prospect of her younger fans becoming introduced to the legendary athlete. (Related: Hit Your Sweat-Induced Endorphin High with An '80s Pop Workout Playlist)
Here's hoping the one-legged tracksuit will now make a comeback...
