Gwyneth Paltrow, one of our favorite health-obsessed celebs, just posted her daily morning smoothie recipe on her lifestyle website, Goop, and the Internet is freaking out about how ~fancy~ and, frankly, Goop-y it is.
The post on Goop claims, "Gwyneth drinks one of these every morning, whether or not she's detoxing." What could possibly be in it? Here's a clue: There's no kale, bananas, frozen fruit, or any of the other go-to smoothie ingredients that us mere mortals use on the reg. Instead, it's filled with maca, ashwagandha, cordyceps, and other things you're going to have to Google to understand. And it's topped off with moon dust—not kidding (moon juice is a Goop "elixir"). Needless to say, these fancy ingredients don't come cheap. (Neither does her detox diet, which is why we tried it on a budget.)
But does her morning smoothie cost $200? Not really. If you add up the prices of the full tubs of each ingredient, it totals approximately $200. Which, if you wanted to grab in one shopping trip, would basically break the bank. But you're only using about one tablespoon of each ingredient per smoothie, making the cost a lot more digestible (pun intended) per day. The final verdict: GP's morning smoothie costs about $11 a day, meaning it's no worse than splurging for a large acai bowl at that trendy juice bar on your block.
So a smoothie that pricey might be a little over-budget for your run-of-the-mill health enthusiast to enjoy daily, but as an occasional treat? Sure. And if it'll give us Goop's healthy, ageless glow? Even more tempting. (If you really want to embrace Paltrow's Goop-y lifestyle, you can treat yourself to some of her new beauty line too.)
