Wonder Woman has already smashed the box office record for a woman-directed film, but that's not the only thing that makes the film so inspirational. Turns out, Gal Gadot was actually pregnant while shooting the action-packed film—something that's made her a superhero IRL.
A few months ago, Entertainment Weekly reported on Gadot's pregnancy, but there wasn't much buzz about it until the movie actually hit theaters. While Gadot was pregnant during part of the main taping, she had to come back to do reshoots for the movie last November. At that point, she was five months pregnant and they had to do some green screen magic to keep her bump from showing on screen. In fact, her costume had to be cut out in the middle because she was so far along that she couldn't fit into the original version. "On close-up, I looked very much like Wonder Woman," Gadot told EW. "On wide shots, I looked very funny, like Wonder Woman pregnant with Kermit the Frog."
But director Patty Jenkins saw the situation for what it truly was. "[Gadot's] pregnant during part of the movie, in a suit out in a field in the freezing cold in others," she told EW. "There are so many things we asked her to do: Now do it on one foot. Now shout while you're doing it. Now it's raining in the freezing cold and you've lost your voice, go. Every day it was a hilarious gauntlet and she would do it."
"Now, at least, we will be able to tell her [new] daughter Maya that she's in her mom's stomach right then," she adds, "in the middle of that battle scene."
It doesn't get more badass than that.
