Iskra Lawrence On Why You Don't Need a Body-Positive Reason to Share a Bikini Pic
There's nothing wrong with just feeling yourself.
Iskra Lawrence is all about breaking down society's standards of beauty and encouraging people to strive for happiness, not perfection. The body-positive role model has appeared in countless Aerie campaigns with zero retouching and is always posting inspirational and motivational messages on the 'gram. (Find out why she wants you to stop calling her plus-size.)
Recently, however, the 27-year-old took a break from the usual and shared a series of bikini photos for no other reason than the fact that she wanted to. Her underlying message? Not every single bikini post has to be about spreading a message-and it's okay to post a picture of yourself just because you like it, regardless of how modest or risqué they may be. "A bikini pic or anything else doesn't have to have a philosophical caption or be about body positivity because maybe it seems more purposeful now or demands more respect," she wrote. "You deserve the same respect regardless of what you choose to wear."
That being said, she also stressed that you shouldn't feel like you have to post pictures of yourself in a bikini in the first place just because other people do it. "Don't feel pressure to post swim or underwear pics for likes, follows or because u see people like me doing it," she wrote. "Your comfort and confidence is wayyyy more important, so stay true to you."
Bottom line? Do whatever you're comfortable doing online, regardless of what other people think. If you're proud of your body and want to celebrate it, don't let any haters stand in your way.
