Yes, their incomparable talent played a huge part in their incredible win, but team captain Rapinoe argued that it was the squad's ability to empower each other when they were at their lowest that really earned them the World Cup.

"At every moment through the whole cycle when we should have splintered, we should have been catty, we should have been bitchy about things…but we always came together, we always stuck it out, we always ground it all together," she told Julie Foudy in an interview with ESPN.

"There’s such a great veteran core about this team but then the younger kids are just ridiculous. I mean, how did they get so good so young?" she added. "There’s just something about this group that said, 'Nothing is going to bring us apart.'" (Related: Alex Morgan Loves Playing Like a Girl)

Goalie, Alyssa Naeher mirrored similar emotions about the team's encouraging dynamic and how they all worked together to keep the negativity at bay. "It’s the closest group I’ve ever been a part of," she told Foudy. "We truly had each other's back. We always believed in each other. We always fought for each other and that was something special."

Breakout star Rose Lavelle also drew attention to the team's compatibility and unwavering support for one another. "It was so cohesive," she said. "That kind of cohesion...you feel it every time you play. I think that’s what got us to the top. I feel so lucky to be a part of this group."
