"We've done our best to stay healthy together."

While in the White House, Michelle Obama inspired Americans to get up and get moving through her Let's Move campaign. Now, the former first lady is giving people a peek inside her new life by sharing photos from a recent "bootcamp weekend" she hosted for her girlfriends.

"When I was at the White House, I often hosted bootcamp weekends for my close girlfriends," she wrote on Instagram on Monday. "It didn't matter that we were all at varying fitness levels."

Based on her post, the former FLOTUS spent the weekend working out with about a dozen friends. And while the focus of the experience was to be active, it was also about spending time together and practicing some much-needed self-care. "Our bootcamp weekends were a reminder that if we want to keep taking care of others, we need to take care of ourselves first," she said. "And even though I'm no longer at the White House, I've continued this tradition and wanted to share some photos."

She continued by opening up about the important role both fitness and her friends have played through her years as first lady and her life after the White House.

"My girlfriends have been there for me through all kinds of life transitions over the years-including a pretty big one recently," she said. "And we've done our best to stay healthy together. Whether it's a bootcamp or a walk around the neighborhood, I hope you and your crew can find some time this summer to be healthy together."
