Earlier this week, Miley Cyrus took to her Instagram Stories to share that she has tonsillitis, an umbrella term for any inflammation of the tonsils caused by a bacterial infection or a virus. By Tuesday, the singer was hospitalized.

It's unclear what caused Cyrus's condition to warrant a stay in the hospital. Tonsillitis symptoms usually go away on their own within two or three days and don't generally involve a hospital visit; antibiotics and a few days of rest will usually do the trick, according to the Mayo Clinic. While mild symptoms include a sore throat, difficulty swallowing, and fever-like symptoms, in more severe cases, the glands in your neck could become swollen and painful, and you could also develop white puss spots in your throat. If the infection is bad enough, you may need to have your tonsils surgically removed.

Again, it's not clear whether Cyrus's tonsillitis will require surgery. But on the bright side, she seems to be on the mend, asking fans to send her "good vibes" as she recovers. The pop star is set to perform at the Hollywood Palladium this Saturday, as part of The Ellen Fund's Gorillapalooza concert to support gorilla conservation.

"Trying to heal as quickly as I can to make it to Gorillapalooza w @theellenshow @portiaderossi @brunomars this weekend," she wrote in her Instagram Stories alongside a picture of herself lying in a hospital bed connected to an IV. (Related: Watch Miley Cyrus Show Off Her Mad Yoga Skills)

"Send goooooood vibes my way," she added. "Hoping the Rock star G*DS send me a boost of badass and help me kick this sh** to the curb where it belongs. We got gorillas to save!"

Given the circumstances, the 26-year-old performer still seems to be in good spirits. For starters, she ~redesigned~ her standard hospital gown to make it a more fashionable "punk rock baby doll halter." She also got a mini-makeover from her mom, Tish Cyrus. "How you present yourself can determine how you feel!" Cyrus shared in another Instagram Story. "Thank you, mama, for helping this little sickyyy look a little bit better by brushin' my hair for me. Mommy's are the best!"

Cyrus's mom wasn't the only one to show her some love in the hospital. Australian musician Cody Simpson, whom Cyrus referred to as her "BF" in her Instagram Stories, also stopped by with a few adorable surprises.

"Arrived with roses and his guitar in hand," Cyrus shared in her Instagram Stories. He also serenaded her to a sweet song he wrote especially for her.

It comes as no surprise that Simpson's loving gestures turned out to be the best medicine of all. After his visit, Cyrus wrote on IG: "Suddenly I’m feeling much better."
