Pink Shared an Emotional Post About Her 'Brutal' Recovery After Hip Surgery

The singer thanked her husband, Carey Hart, for taking care of her as she continues to endure life ("tears...pain med depression, ulcers from meds and constant fevers") post-op.

Pink is not one to shy away from keeping things real, particularly when it comes to the tough stuff in life, such as her battle with COVID-19 or performing at the Super Bowl with the flu. (She even hilariously called 2020 a "poop sandwich of a year.") Most recently, the singer, 42, opened up about the, in her words, "brutal" recovery she's currently enduring after undergoing hip surgery. (

On Wednesday, Pink took to Instagram to share a smiling selfie and give fans a peek into "what 9 hours of sleep and cuddles from my kiddos looks like 7 days post hip surgery!!" While she didn't share any details about why she needed the procedure, the mom of two took the opportunity to thank her husband, Carey Hart, and her team of doctors at The Steadman Clinic in Vail, Colorado. "I have to say thank you to everyone at The Steadman Clinic in Vail and Dr. Philippon for taking such good care of me," she wrote in the caption. "Because I'm married to an athlete who has [had] hundreds of surgeries, I get to meet some of the world's greatest doctors. I am never not completely grateful."

The three-time Grammy Award winner went on to describe the first few (rough-sounding) days following her operation, giving tons of credit to Hart for helping her get through thus far. "It was a brutal first week full of tears and pain med depression, ulcers from meds and constant fevers, but my @hartluck brought me through. (No one recovers from surgery like he does, he's not real.)"

Though Pink didn't specify which medications she's been taking, the Mayo Clinic notes that post-surgery pain meds often include opioids, such as oxycodone (e.g. OxyContin, Roxicodone) and oxycodone with acetaminophen (e.g. Percocet, Roxicet) — all of which can come with a host of unpleasant side effects. Think: nausea, vomiting, constipation, urinary retention, drowsiness, impaired thinking skills, and poor respiratory function. Studies have also linked post-surgery painkillers to fever and peptic ulcers (aka gastritis), as Pink shared that she's experienced IRL.

"He brought me coffee in the shower, lugged around my 100 pound CPM [continuous passive motion] contraptions everywhere I went, dried my tears, cooked me oatmeal, kept track of my meds, got me my phone charger, plugged in my compression machines, took my temp, made the bed, and talked me off the ledge," she said of Hart on Instagram. (ICYDK a CPM — continuous passive motion — machine is a motorized device that passively moves a joint through a pre-set range of motion to help reduce joint stiffness and pain as well as promote healing and recovery, according to research.)

Although it sounds like she's been through the wringer, the "What About Us" singer assured fans that she'll "make a full recovery." In the meantime, however, Pink seems to be keeping a positive attitude, sharing that she's "already figured out some tricks on these crutches [she's] on for six weeks,,, yada yada yada… But!!!!! Life always reminds you that most setbacks are actually just pauses and opportunities to recalibrate and count your blessings." (

"Because of this challenge, I happened to meet a woman with cerebral palsy who summits 13,000 ft mountains in her chair," she said of Melissa Simpson, a Colorado native and adaptive athlete whom she called "incredible." This experience also led Pink to "[learn] about a blind man that summits Mt Everest." From there, the star took some time to acknowledge that it's been "humbling" for her to adjust to her new limitations and gave props to those who can turn even the hardest of challenges into positive experiences.

"It is humbling for a very independent person like myself to be rendered physically unable and dependent, even if for a couple of months," shared Pink. "I'm learning the gift of accepting help. My journey will be quick and intentional, and I will make a full recovery. For that I am so blessed." (

Pink ultimately concluded her post on an inspiring note, writing, "I'm impressed by those that face real, hard challenges, and alchemize their situation into something magical, or meaningful. In the meantime, shout out to all of those on the journey to wellness, and to those making magic out of the impossible. Have a great day folks!!!!! Let the healing begin ❤️🙏❤️💃🏼"

Here's hoping Pink makes a speedy recovery and that her healing is smooth and free of setbacks. It sounds like she's got a killer support team — and paired with her signature sunny attitude, she's equipped with a combo that can't be beaten.
