Serena Williams Revealed a Hidden Meaning Behind Her Daughter's Name
Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr. shares her father's name. But there's another layer of meaning to her moniker.
The world made a collective aww when Serena Williams introduced her new daughter, Alexis Olympia Ohanian Jr., to the world. In case you need another pick-me-up, the tennis champion just shared an adorable tidbit about her name choice (besides it also being the name of the baby's father and Williams' fiancé).
"Fun fact, my daughter's initials are AO as in the Aussie Open she won with me," she tweeted. Maybe the play on Alexis' initials was part of the plan or just something Williams noticed, but either way, we're a fan.
If you don't follow tennis news, Williams is referring to winning her seventh Australian Open while she was pregnant. Back in April, she revealed on Snapchat that she was 20 weeks pregnant, leading everyone to do the math and realize she won the title about 10 weeks into her pregnancy. (In other how-the-hell-did-she-do-that news, Alysia Montaño competed in the U.S. Track and Field Nationals while five months pregnant.)
Since Alexis' birth, Williams has seemed to be really psyched about living the mom life. She tweeted that she's "having a hard time posting anything that does not involve Alexis Olympia or something to do with her. And she penned a touching letter to her own mom about trying to be the same type of role model to her own daughter. Given the way she's dedicated herself to tennis, it's no surprise Williams is going all in on motherhood, right down to winning at baby names.
